It would have been better if the can was full. I wonder how close they had to get to get this footage.
This is a concept we discussed in Earth / Physical Science this week. Another fine video from Veritasium
If we intend to go back to the moon. I was speaking today about volcanic ash and how it can be extraordinarily abrasive like moon dust. Here is an article on the very subject to illustrate my point.

National Geographic has just released a map showing the best representation of what the world will look like if the polar ice caps melt.

This is very cool. A fossilized pine cone where the gemstone opal has replaced the organic material. “This beautiful specimen was found at… “Kens Retreat” in the Coocoran mining area N/West of Lightning Ridge…” in Australia of course. The image credit links to a website selling such beautiful specimens.

Interesting…
One of my favorite new products in the last couple of years is Sugru, a moldable silicone rubber compound. I mentioned it in one of my classes today so I thought I’d link to their rather irreverent video explaining their product. It’s a bit pricey, but invaluable for fixing A LOT of stuff.
For only about $10!

The bigger point is that this could be a completely new type of matter. Wow.
Very good points here. Adam Savage from “Mythbusters” talks about advice he gives young people. (note – he does use the “A” word a good bit toward the end, but it’s to make a point)
I mentioned this in class today. This was a major maritime engineering event. Lifting a 100 thousand ton ship upright off a reef in a wildlife sanctuary that is some of the last pristine Mediterranean coastline and home to many endangered species. This timelapse video shows most of the lifting that occurred earlier today.

Here is an image of the ship after raising, note the damage.

I love games. This is from last month, but it’s so cool I had to post it…
Scientists have been able to find a massive canyon under the Greenland Ice Sheet. The Canyon appears to have been carved by a river, not the glacier. Four million years ago or more.
